Create - Collaborate - Experiment -

CREATIVE PRACTICE is where ideas take shape, boundaries are challenged and new work comes to life. Through contemporary choreography, heritage and interdisciplinary collaboration, artists experiment, discover their creative voice and develop original work with the support, space and professional connections to take their ideas further.

The Creative Practice strand is made up of 4 distinct programmes: New Frequencies, New Voices, The Creative Lab and Re-Frame.

New Frequencies

Brings together young artists aged 15–21 to create bold, original dance inspired by visual art. Collaborating with professional dance artists and live musicians, participants experiment, choreograph and develop their own artistic voice, building skills, confidence and creative connections before sharing their work in gallery, theatre and festival settings.

NEW VOICES

Supports emerging dance artists aged 18–25 as they take their next steps into independent creative practice. Through a ten-week programme of experimentation, choreographic development and mentoring, artists receive the time, space and bursary support to take creative risks, shape their identity, establish their own creative direction and share new work.

The Creative Lab:

Brings classroom learning to life through immersive, artist-led experiences in a Gallery setting. Working alongside FDC’s contemporary dance artists and educators, students explore, experiment and collaborate to transform ideas and creative visual stimuli into original choreography. Tailored to different learning needs, interests and levels of experience, the Creative lab deepens choreographic understanding, strengthens creative decision-making and offers first-hand industry insight.

Re-Frame:

Brings dance and filmmaking together in an exciting exploration of movement, image and visual storytelling. Bringing young people, emerging artists and professional creatives together, the programme invites participants to experiment, collaborate and reimagine how dance can be captured and experienced on screen.
